Dog License

Pursuant to Section 174.052, Wisconsin Statutes, rabies vaccinations and dog licenses are required for all dogs who are 5 months of age or older.

Vaccinations against rabies are required per Section 95.21(2), Wisconsin Statutes, within 30 days after the dog reaches 5 months of age and shall be repeated within one year after the initial vaccination.  In addition, dogs shall be revaccinated when their rabies certificate expires.  A certificate documenting that the dog’s rabies vaccinations are current shall be presented to the treasurer when obtaining an annual dog license.

The owner of a dog more than 5 months of age on January 1 or within the licensing year shall obtain an annual dog license.  Any person who keeps more than one dog shall contact their municipal treasurer regarding the availability of a multiple dog license.

2026 Dog Licensing tags shall be obtained by April 1, 2026, from your Municipal Treasurer.

Licensing fees may vary by municipality.  Late fees are assessed after April 1, 2026.

There is no fee for a burn permit. These are issued from a Deputy Fire Warden at the Town Hall or Abrams Feed & Grain on Main Street or you can obtain the Annual burning permit online at dnr.wi.gov or by calling 1-888-WIS-BURN (947-2876) to have a permit mailed or instantly emailed. 

Before you burn, you must call the burning permit hotline or visit http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/forestfire/restrictions.html to obtain the current burning restrictions in the area you wish to burn.

The Abrams Community Park at the end of Wickman Way is maintained by the Town of Abrams Park Committee. The park includes a pavilion, concession stand, bathrooms, picnic tables, 3 baseball diamonds, bleachers, horseshoe throwing pit, batting cage, and a playground.

The park is available for rent for private functions. The rental fee is $100.00 with kitchen and bathroom facilities or bathroom only $25.00 with a $100 security deposit.

Register to vote using My Vote Wisconsin and submit to your Municipal Clerk.

To vote in Wisconsin you must first register to vote, be 18 years of age and a United States citizen.

Applications for Absentee Ballots must be submitted to your Municipal Clerk.

  • Any qualified elector who is unable or unwilling to appear at the polling place on Election Day may request to vote an absentee ballot. A qualified elector is any U.S. citizen, who will be 18 years of age or older on Election Day, and who has resided in the ward or municipality where he or she wishes to vote for at least 28 consecutive days before the election. The elector must also be registered in order to receive an absentee ballot.
  • To obtain an absentee ballot you must make a request in writing.
  • Contact your Municipal Clerk and request that an application for an absentee ballot be sent to you for the election. You may also request an absentee ballot by letter. Your written request must list your voting address within the municipality where you wish to vote, the address where the absentee ballot should be sent, if different, and your signature.
  • Special absentee voting application provisions apply to electors who are indefinitely confined to a home or a care facility, in the military, hospitalized, or serving as a sequestered juror. If this applies to you, contact the Municipal Clerk.
  • You can also personally go to the clerk’s office or other specified location, complete a written application, and vote an absentee ballot during the hours specified for casting an absentee ballot. Municipal Office hours vary, please call ahead.
  • The deadline for voting In Person Absentee in the Municipal Clerk’s Office is 5 pm the Friday before the election.
  • The deadline for making an application to vote absentee by mail is 5 pm on the 5th day before the election.
  • Military electors should contact the Municipal Clerk regarding the deadlines for requestion or submitting an absentee ballot.
  • The 1st day to vote an absentee ballot in the Municipal Clerk’s Office is the Monday three weeks prior to election day.

How to Get Your Conditional Use Permit, Rezone, or Land Division Variance on the Town of Abrams Agendas

To ensure your request is considered by the Planning Commission and Town Board, follow the steps and deadlines below.

Step 1: Review Your Proposal with Oconto County Planning & Zoning

Before submitting to the town, review your proposal with the Oconto County Planning & Zoning Office to make sure it meets county zoning requirements.

Step 2: Prepare Your Complete Application Materials

Gather all required documents well before meeting deadlines:

  • Completed application form (Conditional Use Permit, Rezone, or Land Division Variance)
  • Site plan or survey
  • Supporting documents (maps, drawings, descriptions)

Bring copies of all materials to all meetings.


Step 3: Submit to the Planning Commission Agenda

Regular Planning Commission meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 7:00 P.M. Only if there is business on the agenda.

To be placed on the Planning Commission agenda:

  • Contact the Planning Commission Secretary at least 10 business days before the 2nd Tuesday meeting date.

Example deadline calculation:
If the meeting is on the 2nd Tuesday (e.g., Tuesday, February 10), your request should be submitted by the preceding Tuesday 10 business days earlier (e.g., by Tuesday, January 28). Always verify exact cut‑off with the Clerk.


Step 4: Attend the Planning Commission Meeting

Come to the meeting prepared to present your request and answer questions. The Commission will make a recommendation to the Town Board.


Step 5: Submit to Town Board Agenda

Town Board meetings are held on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 6:00 P.M.

To get your item on the Town Board agenda:

  • Contact the Town Clerk at least 10 business days before the 3rd Tuesday meeting date.

Example deadline calculation:
If the Town Board meets on Tuesday, March 18, aim to submit your materials by Friday, March 6 (10 business days in advance). Confirm exact dates with the Clerk.

Step 6: Attend the Town Board Meeting

Be present for the Board meeting to discuss your item. Bring copies of all documents again. The Board will consider the Planning Commission recommendation and take action.


Step 7: Submit Final Materials to Oconto County (if applicable)

After local reviews, some applications — especially those involving county zoning or land division — will also require submitting your final application and any required forms to the Oconto County Planning & Zoning Office.

Oconto County mails property tax bills for the coming year in December of the previous year. Mailed payments shall have a Post Office postmark date for the first half no later than January 31st and the second half no later than July 31st to avoid late-payment fees. 

To request a mailed receipt for payments done by mail to the Town Hall, include with payment a self-addressed stamped envelope, make sure you have sufficient postage.

The Town Garage is located behind the Town Hall at 5877 Main Street, Abrams, WI 54101 (with driveway access being on Abrams Hall Road).

The Town Garage maintains a small fleet of trucks that are used for:

  • Winter snow removal
  • Minor road repair work

This facility supports the Town’s public works operations throughout the year.

The Abrams Town Hall is used for all elections. This is your official polling location.
